We are pleased to announce the signings of youngsters Declan Jones, Alex Kent and Dominic Smith to the Hull Seahawks for the 2022/23 season.

Dec Jones, Alex Kent & Dom Smith are yet more products of Hull’s junior development system, they have all spent their junior years learning their ice hockey trade in Hull progressing through the age groups. Last year, all three lads represented the Kingston Sharks U18’s and they all also stepped up to play for the Hull Jets in the NIHL 2 division.

18 year-old forward Declan Jones scored 71 points in just 16 games for the Kingston Sharks U18’s, grabbing 33 goals and 38 assists which equates to averaging over 4 points per game. Meanwhile Dec also answered the call and represented the Hull Jets last season making 14 appearances, scoring 9 goals and getting 7 assists meaning he racked up over a point a game for the first time playing at NIHL 2 level. Dec will be staying with the Seahawks for the upcoming season as there are plans for him to get minutes on the board with the Seahawks but the door is always open for Dec to join up with the Blackburn Hawks if needed during the season too.

18 year old forward Alex Kent scored 47 points in again just 16 games for the Kingston Sharks U18’s as well as being the club captain, getting 22 goals and 25 assists which equates to just under 3 points per game on average. Alex, like teammate Dec, made the jump to represent the Hull Jets last season by making 14 appearances, scoring 19 points including 9 goals and 10 assists helping the Jets go onto win silverware last season. Last season Alex also iced with his half-brother Jordan (Fisher) across in West Yorkshire for the Leeds Knights in the NIHL National Division making 2 appearances. Kent will be on a 2-way deal with the Blackburn Hawks this season to get regular minutes at NIHL 1 level in order to enhance his progression.

18 year old netminder Dom Smith played 15 games for the Kingston Sharks U18’s last season while recording a 1.63 GAA, a .917 save percentage and an impressive 4 shutouts along the way. Like Dec & Alex, Dom iced for the Hull Jets 8 times last season recording a 2.62 GAA and a .906 save percentage. Dom will be on a 2-way deal with the Hull Jets so he can get regular minutes at NIHL 2 level in order to enhance his development further.

GM Sports Matty Davies commented on signing the young trio “I am really excited to work with these boys, they’re all young lads from Hull that are dying to pull on the Seahawks shirt and will work so hard to make that happen.

These lads are still raw in a few certain aspects of their game but training with us on a daily basis will bring them on so much and I’m hoping they can all push to fill spots on our team. I’ve been where these lads are right now and I realise how hard it is to break through or even get that chance to show what you can do and since starting this club up, I’ve been extremely honest and upfront about using kids from Hull and the ones that are ready to play will play and I stand by that.

They’ve all had a great season last year helping the 18’s and Jets win the retrospective championships and I think they are ready to take the next step this season and I’ll be there to help them do that.”

Join us in welcoming Dec, Alex & Dom to the Hull Seahawks.
