Seahawks Community Programme

The success of Hull Seahawks is built on the rich heritage of Ice Hockey within the local area, which over the years, has resulted in a close-knit ice hockey community filled with friendly faces.

Ice hockey is an inclusive sport with teams varying from age 5 upwards to adult recreational sides. In Hull, the sport caters for all genders as well as persons suffering disabilities. We aim to build on this legacy by ensuring future generations of children, families, fans, and players continue to enjoy our great game regardless of age, gender or disabilities.

Our goal is to be proactive in the community for the benefit of all while, working to the key principles of Inclusion, Education, Fitness, Wellbeing and yes entertainment. Ultimately, we aim to improve the lives of the local community.

We have recruited a dedicated group of young local and national players aged between 16-20 who we will develop as people and players. In the academy, these players will receive job opportunities/work experience, educational/careers advice, support for nutrition, mental health, sports science in addition to pro-sports level ice hockey training skills and fitness training.

All of the player’s parents have been included in decisions and development reviews. We have either incorporated these players in the parent team or loaned them to teams in the league below with a view to acquiring match experience.

We have adopted sports and social groups such as Scouts/Cubs, boxing clubs, youth football and rugby teams as well as special interest groups such as Sight Support. These groups have attended games and we assist them with fundraising, providing meeting facilities and hosting special events at the rink. We also promote each other through our social media channels.

We want like to connect with other community groups that identify with disabilities and/or ethnic issues in order for them to share the benefits of the programme. Autistic, sight impairment and cancer support groups are affiliating with us and we would like to identify and collaborate with many more.

Through this programme, we attend schools to provide education, fitness, wellbeing and nutrition advice based around our sport. We also assist schools by providing rewards for certain performing students and those who require support.

Hull Seahawks promotes sustainable partnerships with commerce. We have recruited various local businesses to support our programme and we in turn often support theirs. Some of these organisations provide financial support while others, through their connections in the community and applying their own skillsets, support us with facilities, advice, services and signposting to other supporting groups.
