The Hull Seahawks are pleased to announce the signing of Declan Balmer.

‘Dec’ is a 6’3’’ defender, aged 26 and born in Hull. Last year he spent the season with Swindon Wildcats having previously played Elite level with Manchester Storm for three seasons.

This is a flagship signing for the Seahawks and takes the total tally of signings to four, all with Elite experience.

‘I am excited about Dec but then I’m excited about all of my players,’ commented GM Sport Matty Davies. ‘Players should be excited about joining the Seahawks!’

Dec is an imposing and skilful defender with Elite experience. ‘When we started the team, I had Dec in mind straight away. He is a big part of my plan to create a tough defence in front of two first-rate keepers. The best teams I’ve played on start off with a solid netminder and a hard-to-play-against defence,’ added Matty.

‘Although Dec has not played as a professional in Hull he cannot wait to skate out in front of his home crowd. I’ve played against Dec and never enjoyed it.’

Hull has missed an imposing D-man and often been bullied by opponents but coach Davies believes that, ‘Dec is strong, defensive minded, answers the bell if needed, is an offensive threat on the blue-line and moves the puck. I see him as one of my leaders on the ice and he is in his prime. He could well be a fixture at Hull for years to come.’

Fans are hoping for more signings soon and are keen to see former Pirates or Hull-born players return. ‘I get that, I really do understand that emotion but I’m not signing any player just because he comes from Hull. This is a careful process. We are not signing a team that will just scrape us above the bottom two. I have greater ambition than that. My starting point is a tough defence, with every player protecting the house. It doesn’t end there though. You just watch the forwards I am signing, too!’

Well, as ‘Mighty’ Davies says, watch this space for more signings next week.
