Hull born fan’s favourite, Sam Towner, has re-signed for his home club. Sam is a familiar player to Hull fans having advanced through the junior development system. Last season he played for the Sheffield Steeldogs and formerly played for the Hull Pirates and Hull Stingrays. Even though he is only aged 27, Sam brings a wealth of experience and work rate into the first ever Seahawks roster.
GM Sport, Matty Davies commented, “Both on and in the changing rooms Sam is a leader. He is someone who I couldn’t see this team happening without him being on it. He loves Hull I know he cares about this city and team a lot and that’s what I want on this team people who are leaders and that spread the fact they care through the whole dressing room. As a player he is someone I know will do anything asked of him he can play with kids and help bring them on and also step up the line up and play on the top 2 lines no problem! Sam’s work rate on the ice is exactly what all the other players must look at and try to aspire to. He leaves everything out on the ice.”
For Hull Seahawks GM Commercial, Ian Mowforth, Sam is a special signing. “I had the pleasure of knowing Sam’s parents. When I first met them at the ice hockey in Hull, Sam was still a baby. It feels extra special when you see one-of-our-own come through the ranks and take his place in this new team. Sam is a great kid… well, I suppose he is not a kid anymore! But I am confident Sam will do what Sam does best; work hard, be an example to everyone on and off the ice and grab as many points as possible.’
Matty Davies has not just signed Sam to make up the numbers. ‘He has a good two-way game and is a safe per of hands when we need to play a tight game. He is not afraid to battle it out in the corners and he chips in with his fair share of goals too. Sam has a very big role with this club and is yet another player I have signed who is coming into his prime.’
